James Street Cultural Precinct Development Application

Community members are invited to provide feedback on the Development Application (DA) for the James Street Cultural Precinct, incorporating a new Library, Visitor Centre, Volunteer Resource Centre, and Museum upgrades.

You may recall earlier opportunities to share ideas for the Precinct, when consultations focused on community aspirations and design options. This stage, however, is different. It is a formal part of the State Government’s planning process, and submissions are assessed under specific legislative requirements.

A DA is required when a proposal involves building, changing, or using land in a way that could affect the surrounding area, environment, or local planning rules. Approval of a DA gives permission for the development to proceed, provided it meets planning requirements and is considered appropriate for the location.

Because this is a formal planning process, there are clear guidelines about what feedback can include; submissions need to focus on relevant planning considerations. Comments must concern issues such as design and scale, amenity impacts, access and infrastructure, environmental factors, heritage and character, and compliance with planning policies and schemes

Information on the DA may be found on the Shire website, or from the administration building – have a look at this if you’d like to provide feedback, and make sure you submit it in writing to the CEO (feedback or comments made on social media will not be recognised) before 4pm, 25 June.
