Communications & Engagement Strategy

The Shire of Esperance is committed to keeping the community informed and providing genuine opportunities for people to have a say in decisions that shape our region.

This commitment supports Council Plan 2026–2036 Outcome 11: A Well-Informed and Engaged Community.

The Communications & Engagement Strategy provides a practical framework for how the Shire will deliver clear, consistent and effective communication and engagement over the next four years. It guides staff, Elected Members and project teams to communicate and engage with the community in a coordinated and meaningful way.

Why Communication and Engagement Matter

Strong communication and community engagement help build trust, support informed decision-making and ensure people can participate in matters that affect them, including services, infrastructure, planning and major projects.

Effective communication and engagement help the Shire to:

  • Provide clear, timely and accessible information.
  • Create meaningful opportunities for community participation.
  • Encourage shared responsibility, community pride and active involvement.
  • Support two-way conversations between the Shire and the community.
  • Consider local knowledge and community perspectives in decision-making.
  • Build confidence in Council decisions and outcomes.

Our Goal

To strengthen relationships with our community through open, transparent and inclusive communication that helps people stay informed, contribute their views and understand how decisions are made.
