Esperance Overflow Campground
Opening Monday, 21 December 2026
The Shire of Esperance provides the Overflow Campground as a short stop for travellers passing through town with nowhere to stay. It is not a destination campground or an alternative to booking your holiday accommodation. It opens only when all other commercial caravan parks are fully booked. Spaces are limited, so we can’t guarantee a site.
Plan ahead: book your accommodation before travelling to the Esperance region. The Esperance Visitor Centre can help with bookings and planning your local itinerary.
We’d love to welcome you when you have a place to stay. If you can’t secure accommodation for your preferred dates, please plan your visit for another time.
Please camp only in a designated campground or caravan park. Camping elsewhere in Esperance is illegal. Rangers carry out patrols, and fines apply.
Location
The Overflow Campground is located at the Greater Sports Ground, entrance via Black Street. The grounds will open on Monday, 21 December 2026.
We want your short stay to be comfortable. Facilities are very basic, so please arrive prepared:
- Unpowered sites only
- Maximum stay of 4 nights
- Limited site capacity
- Bring everything you need to cook your meals. The kitchen is open for washing dishes only.
- Limited showers and toilets
Help keep the campground welcoming and safe by treating everyone with respect. There is zero tolerance for abusive language or aggressive behaviour. Any breach will result in immediate eviction.
Construction: what you need to know
An active construction site will be operating on the grounds while the Overflow is open. This limits space and reduces camping capacity. For everyone’s safety, stay out of all restricted construction areas. Access is prohibited.
Check-in
The check-in van is open from 2:00pm to 7:00pm.
The Overflow does not take bookings, and limited capacity means a site cannot be guaranteed. Please book accommodation elsewhere before travelling to the region rather than relying on the Overflow.
Cost
- $45 per site per night for two people, plus $10 per night for each extra person
- Paymenr by EFTPOS Only

A little consideration helps everyone have a safe, comfortable stop on their journey. Please follow these rules and respect other campers, staff and caretakers.
- Camp only in the areas shown on the site map and stay within your allocated bay.
- Keep your stay to a maximum of 4 nights. The Overflow is for passing through, not an extended holiday.
- Do not camp on sports ovals or internal roadways.
- Avoid camping under trees; it is not recommended.
- Keep your campsite tidy during your stay and leave it tidy for the next traveller.
- Do not dispose of wastewater at the campground. Use the free designated dump point on Shelden Rd.
- Drive at no more than 10km/h within the Overflow.
- Park neatly and follow any directions from the Camp Host, Shire Rangers or Shire of Esperance staff.
- Dogs are welcome. Keep them on a leash and under the control of a responsible person at all times within the campground. Please clean up after your dog using the bags and bins provided.
- No fires are permitted. Gas and electric BBQs are allowed at any time.
- Help keep the campground clean by sorting your recycling and rubbish into the bins provided:
- Recycling: use the yellow-lid or blue bins.
- General waste: use the red- and green-lid bins.
- Larger items: use the bulk bins at the campers’ kitchen.
- Treat staff and caretakers with respect. There is zero tolerance for abusive language or aggressive behaviour towards them. Any breach will result in immediate eviction.
- Smoke only at your own campsite, not in other areas of the Overflow. Dispose of cigarette butts appropriately.
- Please mop out the shower cubicle after use so it is ready for the next person.
- Use generators only between 8:00am and 8:00pm.
- Respect your neighbours: noise restrictions apply from 8:00pm.

FAQ
Do I need to book accommodation before coming to Esperance?
Yes. Book ahead so you know you have a place to stay before making the journey. Esperance is a long way from other towns, and accommodation fills quickly, especially in summer. The Overflow cannot guarantee you a site.
Can I book the Overflow?
No. The Overflow does not take bookings. It provides a short stop for travellers passing through town with nowhere to stay - it is not a destination campground or a place to base your holiday. Stays are limited to 4 nights, and a site cannot be guaranteed. Please book accommodation elsewhere when planning your visit.
Where are the free camps in Esperance?
No. There are no free camps in the Esperance shire. Please use a designated campground or caravan park, or the Overflow when it is operating over summer and has space available. Rangers carry out patrols, and illegal camping attracts a $2,000 fine.
Can I camp at Membinup Beach?
No. Membinup Beach and a number of other beaches are for day use only, so camping is not permitted. For a camping stay, choose a designated campsite at Munglinup Beach, Quagi Beach, Alexander Bay or within the National Parks.
