Wylie Bay Waste Facility

The Wylie Bay Waste Facility is located approximately 10kms east of Esperance and compromises of the Wylie Bay Landfill site, the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) recycling shed, and the community drop off areas for recyclable materials.

The Recycling Team hand sort your recycling and then bale the materials for transport to Perth or other locations in Western Australia.

Every resident who pays rates receives four (4) waste vouchers per financial year that they can use to discard of excess general waste at the Wylie Bay Landfill (items that do not fit in your kerbside collection). If you have bought a property during the year, you can contact the Shire to get the pro-rata waste vouchers for that property. If you need stickers for your recycling bin, these are also available at the Shire Administration Building.

When you come into the facility, the majority of recyclable items can be dropped off first, the tip face is then up the hill, and the steel, Construction and Demolition (C&D) and green waste are on your way out.

Please remember there are size limits for green waste - tree stumps will be charged for. Concrete needs to be broken up into smaller pieces – large slabs will not be accepted. And steel tanks need to be cut up as not to damage machinery.

Due to the increasing pressure on the Wylie Bay Waste Facility, we would like to remind our commercial customers that there is a set process to follow when disposing of loads over 6 cubic meters. For large volumes of commercial waste or Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste and Asbestos, you need to obtain approval from the Shire, and then schedule the date and time of drop off. Please see the Commercial, Construction, & Demolition Waste Enquiry Form.

Finally, don't forget to COVER YOUR LOAD

To avoid littering and causing potential hazards on the road, you are required by law to cover your loads when attending the Wylie Bay Waste Facility. Cover your load with approved covers and secure tightly. Ensure loose materials cannot blow out of or fall from your truck/trailer/ute.

Uncovered or improperly secured loads may result in a $200 on the spot fine (Litter Act 1979).
