Forrest Street Traffic Flow and Safety Upgrade

The Forrest Street Traffic Flow Upgrade is a staged project designed to improve access to parking, enhance traffic flow, and increase safety for motorists and pedestrians in the shopping precinct. The project supports the Shire's strategic Council Plan by delivering road and streetscape improvements along Forrest Street and surrounding areas.

The first stage, construction of the car park at the corner of Forrest and Windich Streets, has been completed. The current stage focuses on parking and access improvements near the shopping precinct, including the installation of a new roundabout at the Forrest Street and Randell Street intersection.

Works that will take place:

Completed Works

  • Construction of the car park at the intersection of Forrest Street and Windich Street.

Current Works

  • Parking improvements along Forrest Street and Randell Street.
  • Improvements to shopping centre access.
  • Preparatory works for a new roundabout at the Forrest Street and Randell Street intersection.
  • New car park entrance expected to open in early December.

Upcoming Works

  • Construction of the roundabout at the Forrest Street and Randell Street intersection.
  • Scheduled for February to March.
  • Future upgrade stages are planned and will be developed in consultation with external stakeholders, including the shopping centre ownership group.

Why is the Shire doing this?

The project delivers on Council Plan Action 8.3.2, which aims to provide Forrest Street road and streetscape upgrades to improve access to parking.

The upgrade will:

  • Improve access to parking within the town centre.
  • Enhance access to local businesses and shopping areas.
  • Improve pedestrian and vehicle safety.
  • Reduce vehicle speeds through the area.
  • Create a safer and more efficient road network for all road users.

How will I be affected?

During construction, residents, visitors and businesses may experience minor traffic delays and temporary changes to traffic conditions around Forrest Street and Randell Street.

To minimise disruption:

  • Traffic management will be in place throughout the works.
  • Major traffic impacts will be scheduled outside the peak visitor season where possible.
  • Access to surrounding businesses and properties will be maintained where safe and practical.

The Shire is working to keep disruptions to a minimum while ensuring the works can be completed safely and efficiently.
