Get ready, Esperance – Winter Wonderland will be back this Saturday, July 19 from 9am till 6pm, and it’s set to be even bigger, snowier, and more exciting than ever! After welcoming over 5,000 locals and visitors last year, this free community event is returning with a packed program of frosty fun, creative competitions, and entertainment for all ages.
Expect to see kids dashing through falling snow, building icy castles with beach buckets, and zooming down the ever-popular snowslides. Locally sourced ice will once again transform the Civic Centre into a magical winter playground. And yes – the snowball throwing competition is back, with great prizes up for grabs! More prizes will be available with snowflake bingo - children across the district are creating snowflakes for display at the event, so be sure visit the display and see if your child’s snowflake wins a bingo prize!
This year, Frosty’s had a makeover! The beloved Build-a-Snowman competition is going green, with entries made from recycled or reusable materials. Just make sure your snowman is transportable, displays the date “19 July” and is placed in a safe, visible spot—whether it’s your front yard, farm gate, or shop window. Bring your creation to the event for judging – there will be a best shop display category for businesses, and for community members a chance to win gift vouchers from local businesses of your choice.
But Winter Wonderland is more than just snow. From the moment you arrive you’ll be greeted by giant inflatable slides, bouncy castles, mud monster nature craft, and glitter tattoos. Inside the Civic Centre, enjoy the indoor market, free arcade games, craft activities, Virtual Reality headsets offering snowboarding experiences, and a chillout space with headsets available to provide a respite from the noise and bustle.
Local community groups and businesses will once again fill the markets, offering delicious food, handmade goods, and fun activities – all with free stall spaces provided by the Shire to boost local businesses and fundraising efforts. Come and support the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Esperance Primary P&C, Esperance Care Services, Rotary Club of Esperance Bay, Castletown Primary School, Esperance Catholic Church and the Esperance Community Fundraisers!
Sustainability is again front and centre with the return of the Shire’s Waste Trail and Waste Station, helping kids learn about recycling while earning cool prizes. Bring your own bags, mugs, plates and cutlery to help reduce single-use waste.
So mark your calendar for this Saturday and don’t miss out! Winter Wonderland is free, fun, and full of heart – a perfect way to embrace the cold and celebrate everything that makes Esperance special.
