A new short film is giving locals a closer look at the work being done to care for Tjaltjraak Boodja Park, better known to many as "The Duke". The film was made possible through Coastwest funding secured by dedicated Shire staff.
The video, Tjaltjraak Boodja Park: Where Everything Comes Together, showcases the combined efforts of Tjaltjraak Rangers, the Shire of Esperance, local primary school students and community volunteers, all pitching in to look after one of Esperance's favourite coastal spots.
The Park isn't just a beautiful place to visit – it’s also an important habitat for native wildlife, supports sensitive dune systems and has strong cultural connections to Country – a place where culture, community and coast come together.
Restoring The Duke
The film showcases how revegetation, improved management of 4WD access tracks, and plenty of community involvement are helping to repair erosion, protect vulnerable dunes and bring the landscape back to its best.
It also shows what can be achieved when the community gets behind a common goal. Traditional Owners, schools, volunteers and local organisations are all playing their part in caring for Country and protecting the environment for the next generation.
If you’re visiting the Duke, you can lend a hand too. Staying on marked paths, keeping clear of fenced rehabilitation areas and following the signs all help support the recovery effort.
