The Esperance Museum will be open from 1.30pm till 4.30pm every day of the upcoming September/October school holidays, apart from the public holiday. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers stepping up to the plate, that’s 17 chances to view our fascinating historic collections between 19 September and 6 October!
Extended opening hours doesn’t finish there though - once school holidays are over the Museum will be open 16 hours a week from 10am till 2pm each Tuesday to Friday, with a bonus opening 10am till 2pm on the first Saturday of every month. This is up from the previous 12 hours a week opening hours, over four afternoons a week.
The decision to move to morning opening times was made after consistent feedback from community and tourists showing a marked preference for an earlier opening, particularly by travellers to our region. Extended opening hours and improved access to the Museum has been made possible with additional Council support for the Museum Volunteers, who go through a guided four to six week induction and training process to become familiar with the Museum’s systems and processes.
Before the Covid Pandemic the Museum had a much greater volunteer capacity and was able to open seven days a week. Since then the number of volunteers and therefore opening hours per week has reduced; the Shire and Museum staff are committed to continued investigations into ways to keep increasing Museum opening hours. Keep an eye out for the summer opening hours, coming soon to cater to school holidays and boosted visitor numbers!
