April Asphalt Work

We’ll soon have Shire asphalt contractors in the region, commencing work on annual road and pathway construction and maintenance projects. The team’s start date is Wednesday April 3 and - weather permitting - they are expected to complete work by Saturday, April 20.

Road projects included in this run are; Norseman Road, The Esplanade, Fisheries Road/Bandy Creek Road Intersection, Gladstone Street, Lease Road, Windich Street (from Andrews Street to Mungan Street), and remedial works on Shelden Road. Expect minor traffic disruptions to your daily commute; the Shire’s traffic management will be in place to reduce this as much as possible.

Expansion to the footpath/cycleway network means works will be done on Orr Street, Leake Street, Jane Street, and Forrest Street. The shared path from Bandy Creek to Castletown Quays will also be sealed, expanding the footpath loop around the Esperance townsite.

As the Shire works towards achieving the aims of the Airport Masterplan with the design contract for the runway upgrade design awarded recently, runway repairs will be completed between flights with no disruptions expected.

The parking lots at Lotteries House on Forrest Street and the Wildcherry Dog Park are slated to be sealed, and the basketball court and BMX track berm at Gibson Community Park will be asphalted in this run.

Approximately 1040 tonnes of asphalt will be used to complete all these works; using the asphalting crew to complete batches of projects in this way streamlines the asphalting program and saves the Shire (and ratepayers!) money and time.

The Shire thanks the community for reading traffic signs and driving to conditions. Slowing down and enjoying the ride is really the best way to go.

Subscribers to the road notification emails will be informed when projects commence, so make sure you’re signed up – register at www.esperance.wa.gov.au/websitenotifications/.
