Pet Sterilisation Program - Suspended

The Esperance Pet Sterilisation Program has been suspended for this round of funding.

The Shire of Esperance is working with the community to increase pet (dog and cat) sterilisation numbers. Vouchers are available to cover the full cost of sterilisation for up to two (2) pets per household for residents who are Concession Card holders or experiencing financial hardship.

Why are we encouraging pet owners to sterilise their pets?

Sterilisation reduces:

  • Unwanted and abandoned litters
  • Roaming dogs and cats
  • The risk and incidents of some cancers in dogs and cats.

This is a limited offer, so we encourage those who are eligible to complete the Pet Sterilisation Form and return it to

How does the Shire of Esperance Pet Sterilisation Program work?

To qualify for support, you need to provide:

  • Proof of ID
  • Proof of a valid Health Care Card, WA Seniors Card, Pension Card OR proof of financial hardship
  • Proof of ownership of the pet
  • Pet must be microchipped – If not, this must be done during the sterilisation procedure at the owner’s cost.

How to Apply

Complete the Pet Sterilisation Registration Form. A hard copy can be picked up from the Shire Admin Building or Shire Depot.

Please note: ID, Concession Card, Proof of Hardship and Proof of Pet Ownership must be provided with the application.

Once the Application has been assessed and approved, Ranger Services issue voucher (valid for 30 days) for sterilisation at Swans Veterinary Services.

The Owner then makes an appointment to have the procedure done.

If you have any questions, or need help to fill out the form, please call Ranger Services on 9083 1566 or visit the Shire Depot on Brazier Street.

This Program is funded by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Animal Welfare Grant Program AWGP-R2-46.

Pet sterilisation and the law

Did you know that in WA, under the Cat Act 2011, every cat MUST be sterilised at six months of age? By law, they must also be microchipped and registered with your local council.

Under new laws proposed in the Dog Amendment (Stop Puppy Farming) Bill 2021, all dogs will need to be sterilised by two years of age.
