Voting Packages Out Soon

Nominations for the 2025 Local Government Elections are now closed, and we’re excited to have a comprehensive group of Candidates ready to represent our community!

Local Government Elections will be held across the state on Saturday, 18 October 2025. Shire of Esperance elections will be held by postal vote, managed by the WA Electoral Commission (WAEC).

This year we have four vacancies; one seat in the Rural Ward, and three in the Town Ward are up for grabs.

With the nominations now closed, Council and the Shire are in Caretaker mode until the election results are declared, meaning that no major decisions can be made during this time. Staff have been well aware that Caretaker mode would come into effect, and planned carefully to make sure all upcoming major items were included in the Council Agendas of the last few months.

Voting packages will soon be mailed to all enrolled voters. Each package includes your ballot papers and a reply-paid envelope for returning your vote – but if you’d prefer to drop it off, a secure ballot box will be available at the Shire Admin Building reception area. It’s recommended that votes being returned in the last week are dropped into this ballot box to make sure the postal timeframes don’t mean they’re missed from the count. Council Chambers will be open from 8am on Election Day, Saturday 18 October, and votes can be received up until 6pm - then the count begins under the watchful eye of our WAEC Returning Officer.

So check your letter box, and keep in mind that replacement voting packages will be available from the Shire Administration Building, if yours doesn’t turn up.

Make your vote count - return your ballot before election day!
