Esperance Library: Creativity, Culture and Community

Published on Tuesday, 3 February 2026 at 12:16:27 PM

The Esperance Public Library has delivered another vibrant summer of creativity, connection and community‑led fun, with a full calendar of free activities for all ages.

School holidays bought plenty of energy with Drop In & Play sessions running every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon throughout January. Tuesdays were all about getting creative with craft activities, while Wednesdays focused on LEGO builds and board games, giving families an easy, relaxed way to spend a few fun hours together. The sessions were popular, and especially appreciated by parents looking for something to keep holiday‑bored kids entertained and to connect with others.

For younger children, the Library partnered with Escare to deliver Pop Up Play sessions in local parks. These outdoor meet‑ups offer toys, early‑years activities and shared reading time in a friendly, safe environment, giving under‑fives and their carers a chance to enjoy playtime in the sunshine. The last two sessions of the summer will be from 10am till 12pm on February 12 at the Lions Park, and Mini Train Park on February 26.

Adults can unwind at Alice’s Short Story Reading Club, held at 10am on the third Saturday of each month, where classic tales, conversation and a cuppa create a warm, low‑key space to meet new people - don’t miss out on the remaining sessions of the summer!

Looking ahead to March, the Library will host a special series of Weaving Workshops with John Schultz, a Ngadju and Worimi man and respected local weaver. Running every Saturday in March from 10am–12pm on the library lawn, these free drop‑in sessions invite community members to learn Aboriginal weaving techniques using pre‑prepared fibre. Participants can explore different ways to begin creating their own woven pendant, earrings, mat or rope - a hands‑on opportunity to connect with culture and craft.

And just around the corner, Library Lovers Day returns for 2026, celebrating the many cultures, languages and stories that make Esperance unique. The community can look forward to live music, creative performances, games for all ages, door prizes, and the return of the much‑loved Library Lovers tote bag. A selection of free tastings will also be available between 12pm–2pm.
