From May 5-23, we at the Shire of Esperance are eager to hear from you! Your feedback on local services, facilities, and programs is invaluable. By completing the MARKYT Community Scorecard, you can help shape the future of our community.
As we approach the 2025 scorecard, we'll share updates on our progress over the past two years based on your priorities from the 2023 Scorecard. One of the top priorities you highlighted was Health and Community Services.
While many health-related actions fall under State or Federal Government responsibilities, we've actively advocated for better community health services. Here are some of the significant advancements collectively achieved:
- Emergency Services: We now have three paid paramedics at St John's Ambulance in Esperance, enhancing emergency response and volunteer support.
- Mental Health Support: The Headspace building has been revamped and expanded to support young people's mental health better.
- Lifestyle Village: We're in ongoing talks with stakeholders on the viability of establishing a lifestyle village in Esperance.
The Town Construction crew have made strides in improving the accessibility and safety of our public infrastructure:
- New Footpath: The Baarndi Trail shared path now connects Castletown Quays to Newtown Oval.
- ACROD Parking: Four new accessible parking spots have been added at Scouts Hall, the Esplanade and Genpar Medical, Dempster Street.
- CBD Seating: New seating has been installed in the CBD for convenience.
The Shire’s Building Management have supported the Esperance Senior Citizens in:
- Window Replacement Program: Replacing windows on the west side of the building, with the north-facing windows being replaced in the next financial year.
- Building Maintenance includes auto door servicing, RCD and emergency light testing, Gutter cleaning, timber pest inspection, and RPZD inspections.
Esperance Home Care continues to support older residents and young adults with disabilities, helping them live independently with services like cleaning, personal care, and social activities. Here are some highlights:
- Day Centre Upgrade: A $1.14 million investment from various partners has transformed the Day Centre, making it more welcoming and practical for clients and staff.
- Home Meals: The Esperance Home Care Meals Kitchen cooked 4,507 meals in the last financial year, with 65 dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteers delivering the delicious food.
Since 2023, we've supported the Esperance Aged Care Facility (EACF) in community grants and any required advocacy. EACF has recruited more staff, allowing the facility to open more beds. This is one of the state's last community-owned and run aged care facilities, so local support is vital to its success and sustainability.
As residents, we understand the need for expanded services. We will continue to advocate strongly to the State and Federal Governments, service providers, and other stakeholders to meet the needs of our remote community.
The MARKYT Community Scorecard will land in mailboxes and residential PO Boxes from the 5th May. We invite the community to complete the Scorecard, rate the Shire on local services, facilities and programs and express their needs.
The survey is conducted by independent research company, CATALYSE®, with all responses and comments dealt with in the strictest confidence. When reporting results, CATALYSE® only presents aggregated data. The Shire does not have access to any information from individual respondents.
