Beach Closure Alert – Salmon Beach

Salmon Beach is now open.

Keep updated on public reports by downloading the SharkSmart app and report any shark sightings to the Water police on 9442 8600.

Update 19/11/2025

The western carpark of Salmon Beach is closed. The Shire is working to remove the whale carcass on Wednesday afternoon, at low tide. Please provide space for staff and contractors to work.

In consultation with DBCA, the carcass will be removed and disposed of appropriately.

Salmon Beach is still CLOSED until further notice.

Report any shark sightings to the Water police on 9442 8600.

Salmon Beach has been closed to the public until further notice following the discovery of a whale carcass on the rocks/reef. Temporary caution signs have also been placed at entry points from Fourth Beach (BEN E1408) through Blue Haven Beach (BEN E1461).

The carcass washed ashore at 1:19 pm. Two sharks were observed circling the area shortly before the carcass reached the beach.

Public Safety Reminder:

  • Stay away from Salmon Beach, the rocks, and the water.
  • Read and follow all warning signs – your safety is your responsibility.
  • If you see a shark, report it immediately to Water Police on 9442 8600.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), the Shire and other agencies are monitoring the situation. Updates will be posted on the Shire’s website.

Please avoid the area to reduce risk and allow safe management.
