A Council That Reflects Our Community

Published on Tuesday, 2 September 2025 at 1:57:49 PM

Local government works best when it reflects the people it serves. That’s why the Shire of Esperance is encouraging people from all walks of life to consider nominating for Council in the 2025 Local Government Elections.

When people with different experiences come together, it leads to broader ideas, richer discussions, and more informed decisions for the community. Whether your background is in business, the arts, education, trades, or community service, your voice really does matter.

Why A Mix of People Matters

Strong leadership comes from having a wide range of experiences around the table. This means people of different ages, cultures, genders, abilities, and life stories. When our Council reflects the wonderful mix of our community, it makes more balanced and fair decisions.

If you care about your community and want to help shape its future, we encourage you to explore what it means to be an Elected Member and consider nominating. See our article Council 101: What it Means to be an Elected Member.

Nominations close 4pm sharp on Thursday 4 September, and you can call the WAEC Returning Officer if you have any questions.

Making Council Easier to Take Part In

We want to make it easier for the community to be involved in Council meetings and processes. In the Council Chambers, improvements include:

  • Microphones are used so voices are clear.
  • Sound-reducing panels to improve acoustics in the room.
  • Infrared hearing loop for people with hearing aids.
  • Livestreaming and recording of all official Council meetings.

This means more people can be included, whether as a Councillor, a ratepayer, or a community member coming along to a meeting.

We’d Like Your Feedback

We’re always looking for ways to improve. If you have any ideas on how we can make Council meetings more welcoming and easier for people to get involved, we’d love to hear from you!

Together, let’s build a Council that truly represents Esperance - diverse, welcoming, inclusive, and community-driven.
