Bushfires Update - 28th December 2023
The Shire of Esperance attended an Incident Meeting with DFES and other stakeholders.
As of 1pm, Thursday 28 December 2023:
Neds Corner Incident – Managed by DFES - Containment Lines are holding well. With favourable weather conditions, volunteer firefighters and DFES staff are working to harden up containment lines and consolidate works.
34 volunteer firefighters and 10 firefighting appliances have arrived from Albany this morning to relieve local crews who have been working hard to bring this fire under control. They have come from several brigades including Gnowangerup, Denmark and Kendenup. Absolute legends for coming over to help. Thank you.
This fire is contained but not controlled and is at a Bushfire Advice. Please follow DFES on Facebook or check out https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au/ for updates.
Thank you to Horizon Power crews for finishing the job of replacing damaged poles and restoring power.
St John Esperance has a first aid station on location and will be ongoing support.
The Shire managed fires on Fields Rd and at Ridley are contained and controlled, and being monitored by local brigades. The Buraminya fires continue to be monitored.
The welfare of our volunteer firefighters, their families and the communities affected by this incident is really important to us. Wellbeing services are available through DFES and the Shire to all bushfire brigade volunteers and their families, and there is a list of services available at the bottom of this article for any members of our community who has been impacted by these events. Pease reach out and talk to someone. You are not alone.
While the weather has cooled and is favourable, another trough is expected over the weekend. Officers will continue to monitor the weather, and crews continue to work on strengthening containment lines so we are as well prepared as possible.
Comments from the meeting acknowledged the professional work our volunteer firefighters, heavy machinery drivers and ICV volunteers are doing, and the swift response of Shire Crews.
