50 Voices for 50 Years
Help us capture the stories of our community
To celebrate the Esperance Museum’s 50th anniversary, we’re inviting our community to share their memories, moments and experiences that have shaped the story of who we are today.
Through this project, we aim to record the stories of 50 people from across the Esperance region, capturing a rich and diverse picture of life over time. We want to hear from everyone: young and old, people from different backgrounds, those living in town and across our farming districts.
Everyone has a story to tell.
You can nominate yourself, or you can nominate someone else. We’re simply asking our community “who has something to share about life in Esperance?”
You might be thinking, “my story isn’t that important.” But often, it’s the everyday experiences that matter most. Because what may feel like “just ordinary” today could be the missing link in our community’s story tomorrow.
Not comfortable being recorded? That’s okay. The stories collected through this project will be preserved in the local history archive for future generations. They are not being gathered for immediate display, and your story may not be seen or heard for many years.
In many ways, this project is about looking forward.
We are asking an important question: What do we want to tell people about the last 50 years, in 50 years time?
By sharing your story today, you are helping to ensure that our community’s experiences, voices and memories are not lost but preserved as part of a lasting record for the future.
The Museum acknowledges the generous support of the Rotary Club of Esperance Bay, whose financial contribution has made this project possible. Without this support, a project of this scale and quality would not be achievable.
Nominations close 31 July 2026

What will happen with the nominations?
We expect to receive a large number of nominations, with 50 people selected to take part in the initial round of interviews.
If you’re not selected at this stage, there’s no need to worry. All nominations will be recorded and kept on file, and we plan to follow these up over time as resources allow.
The Museum team and volunteers are committed to finding additional ways to capture and preserve these contributions in the future, ensuring as many voices as possible are included.
