The Graham Mackenzie Stadium
Esperance Greater Sports Ground Redevelopment - Stage 3
At the June 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting the Esperance Shire Council resolved to commit to redevelop the current Esperance Indoor Sports Stadium (now the Graham Mackenzie Stadium) by installing new portal frames spaced between the existing portal frames, installing a new multipurpose vinyl sports floor for courts 1 and 2, and upgrading court 3; including repairs for multipurpose artificial turf and netting. This created a stage 3 for the Greater Sports Ground Redevelopment Project.
At a Special Council Meeting held on the 16th July 2020, Council resolved to rename the old sports stadium to the Graham Mackenzie Stadium in honour of Mr Mackenzie. Mr Mackenzie has been the Chairperson of the Esperance Indoor Sports Stadium Management Committee (ISSMC) since its formation in 1985, when the stadium was originally built.
The Shire awarded the Detailed Design Development on the Stadium in July 2020 to local consultants, Wells Building Designers & Consultants. The Graham Mackenzie Stadium Redevelopment works were tendered in late 2020, with only one tender being received. At the January 2021 Ordinary Council Meeting, Council resolved not accept any tenders for Request for Tender 0334-20 Graham Mackenzie Stadium Redevelopment. In April 2021 Council decided to re-assess the Graham Mackenzie Stadium Redevelopment in mid 2023.
