Where Can Your Pups Play?

Dogs are welcome around the James Street swim enclosure – however they must always be kept on lead in this area. The area from the Esperance Jetty west to the Port is not a dog exercise area and dogs must be on a lead at all times.

The Shire has received several complaints recently about dogs off lead in this area, disturbing beach users and swimmers using the swim lanes.

We want the best for our dogs, so to keep them and our community safe dogs must always be on a leash when not in designated areas.

Areas where your pups can run freely include:

  • The foreshore, east of the Tanker Jetty, along the beach to Straker St in Castletown, between the hours of 5am-8am and 4pm-8pm daily.
  • The Greater Sports Ground Ovals – adjacent Brazier and Harbour Roads
  • The Wildcherry Dog Park, just off Wildcherry Ave in Castletown
  • Most public land outside of the Esperance Town Site, including beaches, unless signs indicate otherwise.

Keep an eye on your pooch! If you do choose to exercise your dogs off lead in these areas, stay vigilant. Do not let your dogs off lead if they are not trained to come when called, and maintain control of dogs off lead by staying close by. Carry their leash to use if required.

Be aware of the areas where dogs are prohibited entirely. These include:

  • All national parks, including Cape Le Grand and Stokes National Park.
  • Twilight Beach, from the headland, to the rocks east of the Surf Lifesaving Club.
  • Monjingup Lake Nature Reserve

We thank you for being a responsible dog owner!
