Airport

Esperance Airport is located 23 km north of Esperance on the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway.

Airport Advertising Opportunities

Air travel is booming! All-time record numbers - nearly 56,000 passengers in FY22/23 alone - continue to pass through the Esperance Airport each day, creating unique and broad reaching advertising opportunities within the Airport Terminal. Add on charter passengers, crews from light aircraft, family members and so on and you're looking at a number in the hundreds of thousands using the Airport Terminal every year - that's potentially hundreds of thousands of local people looking at your ad.

Fixed advertising starts at $25 per month, ranging up to $80 per month for the largest signs. Digital advertising on the big screen is available from $157 per month (min 3 months). Prices relate to FY23/24 and are subject to change.

Contact airport@esperance.wa.gov.au or complete an online enquiry form to register your interest or to explore available opportunities.

Community & Regional Fares

The Shire of Esperance continues to work with the WA State Government and Regional Express (REX) to reduce the cost of flights for residents.

Regional Express (REX) in partnership with the Shire of Esperance offer a discounted Community Fare to all travellers. Community Fares are available on the Esperance – Perth route for early-bird sales up to 30 days prior to departure subject to Community Fare availability, and for last minute purchases within 24 hours before departure time, all remaining unsold seats are released at the Community Fare level.

Regional Express

Regional Airfare Zone Cap - The Regional Airfare Zone Cap scheme is a joint initiative between the State Government and five airlines: Airnorth, Qantas, Regional Express (Rex), Skippers Aviation and Virgin.

The scheme builds on each of the airlines’ resident fare programs by reducing their maximum resident fare prices to the Zone Cap fare of $199 or $299.

Who is eligible for Zone Cap fares? WA regional residents (people who live outside of the Perth/Peel regions) can access a capped airfare for personal travel on eligible routes to and from Perth, subject to seat availability.

Zone Cap fares must be booked as a return fare with travel originating from a regional destination, listed in the tables below, to Perth and back to the same regional destination.

What if I don’t know my return date? If you don’t know your return date, put in a date closest to when you could possibly be coming home, to lock in the Zone Cap fare. Once the date has been confirmed, contact REX to change. There may be a fee, but this will be cheaper than not accessing the Zone Cap Fare.

Regulated Air Route

The Shire of Esperance understands the importance of air service between Esperance and Perth, and we know the frustrations that disruptions can cause. The Shire of Esperance is limited in what we can do to directly address disruption issues but we actively work with REX and the Department of Transport to ensure that this essential service is maintained and that any disruptions are handled in a timely manner.

The Department of Transport regulate the Perth – Esperance route and permits the license to operate:

'Air routes in WA which are considered to have insufficient passenger demand to support airline competition are regulated by the State Government by granting monopoly rights to a single airline to operate on a particular Regular Public Transport (RPT) route (the Esperance-Perth route is one of these).'*

Department of Transport - Air Services in WA

The Department of Transport take into consideration feedback by communities when permitting the licenses. The Shire of Esperance does not have authority in agreements or operations of the airline, but will always fight for what is best for the wider community.

What the Shire does:

The Shire of Esperance maintains the airport's infrastructure, such as the runways, taxiways, and apron, and provides all necessary services for the safe and efficient operation of the airport. The Shire also works with aircraft operators and other tenants to ensure all safety requirements are met.

We take our advocating seriously, and immediately act on community feedback if the airline is not meeting the community’s needs.

Feedback / Complaints:

Complaints about the air service on social media will not be acknowledged - this is not where the airline or the Department of Transport will hear you. For your feedback to be taken seriously and considered, complaints need to be lodged directly to the airline or the Department of Transport.

Shire staff and councillors are taking your concerns to the appropriate people, but you also need to do this work.
