Better Beginnings (Born to Read)better beginnings

Esperance Library participates in the Better Beginnings program and we encourage families to obtain the yellow Better Beginnings Baby bag, the Orange Sing with Me pack for two year olds and the green Kindy Better Beginnings bag for students starting school.

Esperance Library also has backpacks with puppets and picture books and sets of great read-aloud stories for families to borrow.  Deadly Discovery Backpacks are part of our loanable resources for families and focuses specifically on Aboriginal language and culture.

Better Beginnings Baby Bag

Through Better Beginnings, every baby in Western Australia receives a free yellow Better Beginnings reading pack with a specially designed board book. Most importantly, the Better Beginnings pack is an invitation to visit and join Esperance Public Library.

Orange Sing with Me Reading Pack

Singing and reading aloud with your child are two of the most important things you can do to nurture their early learning and brain development. The Better Beginnings Sing With Me reading pack provides parents with lots of resources to use at home. If you have a two year old, talk with us about receiving this pack.

All Western Australian schools and community kindergartens are invited to participate in the Better Beginnings kindergarten program, in which free reading packs are provided to every kindergarten-aged child to take home. Schools are required to register for the program each year, and teachers can do this on the Better Beginnings website. The reading packs will then be provided to the school by Esperance public library.

Families with home-schooled children can contact us to arrange to collect their free reading packs.
