The Shire of Esperance is working towards improving the community’s waste and recycling system, by introducing a third bin for organic waste. The FOGO system will provide residents with a dedicated bin for waste, such as kitchen scraps, spoilt food and garden debris like lawn clippings and small branches. Valuable mulch, soil conditioners or compost can be created from the organic materials processed from the collection.

FOGO has been adopted by numerous councils in Australia and is a proven waste management tool, with environmental and economic benefits, including the reduction of methane gas production in landfill. A bin audit in 2019 showed over 50% of waste in the green bins of the Esperance community was organic waste – food, garden waste or paper products.

The aim of this survey is to understand your future requirements and aspirations for waste and recycling services within the Shire of Esperance. In addition, your feedback will assist the Shire with their development of waste management and recycling strategies.

Survey closes Friday 12 November 2021.
