Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation and The Shire of Esperance invite the Esperance community to celebrate NAIDOC 2018 week which commences Monday, 9 July.

NAIDOC Week celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. This year’s theme, ‘Because of her, we can!’ celebrates the essential role that women have played and continue to play as active and significant role models in the community.

Recognition of NAIDOC week has already begun in Esperance with banners celebrating Indigineous language flying in the town centre. Celebrations will commence Monday 9 July at 9:00am at the Shire of Esperance Administration Building. There will be an official opening of NAIDOC week with a Welcome to Country speech, a Flag Raising Ceremony and a walk with the Mandaboornup Eagles through town to the Whale Tail. From 11:30am to 1pm members of the community are invited to join a free sausage sizzle along with bush foods and tools on display. You can learn more about NAIDOC Week here
