Cat owners have a responsibility to make sure that their animals are happy, safe and not being a nuisance in our community. The Cat Act 2011 is designed to encourage responsible pet ownership, reduce the number of unwanted cats and minimise the number being euthanised each year.

If you wish to breed cats, even one litter, you must apply for a permit. Selling or giving kittens away without a Breeders Licence is an illegal activity.

To be compliant with the State Cat law, all cat owners must ensure their cat is:

  • Microchipped
  • Sterilised
  • Registered with Shire
