New Local Law

The Activities in Thoroughfares and Public Places and Trading Local Law 2016 has been finalised. This means businesses are able to apply for permits for signage, potentially change how they use the thoroughfare out the front or even to make changes to the front of their shop. Council now has more discretion on what can occur and encourages owners to review the local law and understand its impact.

This reviewed local law provides local businesses with improved opportunities and more consistency, while providing more flexibility in the approval process.
Council and Shire officers held consultations with businesses before the law was put through to make sure it is business friendly.

The Shire will be releasing fact sheets shortly to explain the new aspects of the law and staff will liaise with local businesses to assist in its implementation. To read the local law visit our here.
