Each year Esperance has the opportunity to showcase our beautiful region and our local talent to the thousands of people visiting the Perth Central Business District during July.
Banners in the Terrace is one of WA’s biggest community arts projects, featuring around 80 banners from Councils all over the state. The banners are displayed along St Georges and Adelaide Terraces, during the Annual Local Government Convention each year.
The Shire of Esperance is holding a competition to find the best local design and we are looking for design entries from individuals, schools, community groups and professional artists within the Esperance region. The theme for the Western Australia Local Government Association’s 2017 Banners in the Terrace competition is “Members First”. The keywords associated with Members First are Communication and Connection. Entrants are encouraged to interpret and incorporate the meaning of these keywords in their designs, and to think about how communication and/or connection are integral as members of the Esperance community.
With so much local talent within our arts community it should be a tough choice for the judges!
Councillors will vote for the best local design which will be digitally printed on a banner, exhibited along St Georges and Adelaide Terraces in the City of Perth for all visitors and commuters to see, and be submitted for entry in the state-wide Banners in the Terrace competition.
The banner design should promote a bright, positive image of Esperance and it can be drawn, painted or digitally created, which opens it up to our many talented artists, graphic design enthusiasts and photographers. The word ‘Esperance’ needs to be large and clear so that when it is enlarged on the banner, it can be seen from a distance. Judges will be looking at creative composition, use of colour and creativity, artistic merit, individuality, boldness and its relevance to the theme of “Members First”.
There is a prize of $100 gift voucher from a local business to the winner and $50 gift vouchers for two runners-up, whose designs best reflect the theme ‘Members First’, not to mention seeing your design flying high in the busiest streets in Perth, representing Esperance.
The winners of the Banners in the Terrace Competition will be announced at the WA Local Government Convention and Exhibition, which attracts more than 600 Local Government representatives and about 100 suppliers to the sector.
Information and entry forms are available below and entries need to be submitted to the Shire of Esperance by Friday 31 March 2017, so get out your brushes, fire up the computer or clean the lens of your camera and get creative!
