Following receipt of funding from a sustainable infrastructure grant, waste bins have been ordered for the Waterfront.

Upon completion, the Waterfront will feature on-site solar-powered compacting bins. Due to the compaction of waste, and an electronic system within the bins that alerts waste collectors when the bin is reaching capacity and requires emptying, the bins will need emptying with less frequency reducing the service cost. The bins are fully enclosed, eliminating problems caused by adverse weather and animals. Since the bins are designed not to overflow, this should result in less ambient litter and cleaner streets for our town.

Funding was received from the Commonwealth of Australia, Community Development Grants Program Esperance Waterfront – Sustainable Infrastructure Project grant.

The bins are expected to be installed on the Waterfront during August.
