Construction of a world-class playground that will be a central feature of Esperance’s headland has received a funding boost from Lotterywest. Member for Eyre Dr Graham Jacobs MLA presented a cheque for $200,000 to the Shire of Esperance on Friday.

The $400,000 playground has been designed as a discovery-based nature play experience and will be divided into three areas themed around bush, beach and sea. Features will include a crow’s nest, a steel shipwreck, and sculptures of a starfish, sea urchin and whale skeleton. Stepping stones, balancing beams, monkey bars and a balancing rope will be created out of recycled jetty timber. There will also be swirl chimes. Designers, Hassell, sought to create a play area that blends with the natural environment and would stimulate the senses. Grass areas and picnic areas will also be created on the headland near the playground.
