The Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Citizen of the Year Awards are a part of the Australia Day family of awards, the Premier's Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards focuses on community contribution and participation rather than personal achievement.
They are run in many councils around the state as a joint initiative of the Australia Day
Council of Western Australia, the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA)
and the Office of Premier and Cabinet.
The Awards reward and recognise individuals and organisations that have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year, and/or give an outstanding service over a number of years, to a local community over and above normal employment duties.
Outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as; education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and well being of a community.
