Turtles in Esperance

Shire Environmental Officers had an exciting visit today from a wandering female turtle found in Nulsen. It is possible that she was out to lay eggs after the wet weather. Female turtles travel out of freshwater to open areas to lay eggs. Sightings of Oblong Turtles in Esperance are rare, but the species is common from Jurien Bay to Hopetoun. Environmental Officers  will release her back in the wild. If you find a turtle or other displaced wildlife on your property please contact DPAW on (08) 9474 9055.
