Following the introduction of the Cat Act on November 1, the Shire of Esperance has constructed a cat holding facility that opened this week and Rangers have already rehomed their first resident, a four week-old kitten.

The facility can hold up to 12 cats and will keep them for a maximum of seven days. All cats must?be microchipped and sterilised prior to leaving the cattery. Owners need to provide evidence they have booked, and paid for, an appointment for any necessary procedures at a veterinary clinic, before their cat will be released. A cat poundage release fee of $100 applies.

If cats are surrendered to Ranger Services a surrender fee applies.

Anyone interested in providing a cat with a good home can view the animals at the Shire depot between 3pm to 4pm Monday to Friday.
