Cats

The Shire of Esperance's Health Local Laws (as amended October 2009) restrict the number of cats kept on premises to no more than 2 over the age of 3 months.

Dogs

Large Animals

The Shire of Esperance's Health Local Laws (as amended October 2009) govern the keeping of large animals. Large animals include horses, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, deer, camels and others of similar size.

Poultry and Other Birds

The Shire of Esperance's Health Local Laws (as amended October 2009) govern the keeping of poultry (including bantams, ducks and other domestic fowls) on premises. 'Bird' includes galahs, parrots, budgerigars, finches, pigeons, doves and the like.

An owner or occupier must not keep more than twelve (12) poultry on any one lot of land.

Roosters, geese, turkeys, peafowls and gamebirds (including ostriches and emus) are not permitted to be kept within a townsite without the written approval of the Shire of Esperance.

Petting Zoos

The Department of Health has produced Petting Zoo Guidelines providing information on what is required when holding a petting zoo.
