The Shire’s Environmental Health Officers are required to undertake at least one inspection every year of all backpackers hostels, bed & breakfasts and motels within the Shire of Esperance to ensure that each complies and all health requirements are being met.
The Caravan Park and Camping Grounds Regulations 1997 (WA) came into effect on 1st July 1997 to regulate standards of park design, health, traffic, fire and safety and other such issues to safeguard users and improve park conditions.
The Shire of Esperance is required to undertake at least one inspection every year of all park structures and supporting facilities to ensure compliance with the act and regulations and to grant a license for its operation.
Approvals are also required prior to the erection or placement of park homes, verandas, carports, pergolas and sheds (amongst other things).
The Caravan Parks and Camping Grounds Regulations 1997 (WA) allow a person to camp for up to 3 nights in any 28 day period on land (that is not a caravan park) that they have a legal right to occupy, and up to 24 consecutive hours in a caravan or other vehicle on a road side rest area.
Written approval for a person to camp on land that they have a legal right to occupy can be granted by the local government for a period of up to 3 months in any period of 12 months. To apply for local government approval write to:
