Environmental Services

The Shire of Esperance has a rich diversity of ecosystems including rivers, streams, wetlands, woodlands and coastal heaths each with its own unique communities of flora and fauna.

The Shire’s Environmental Officer provides specialist advice in the preparation and implementation of environmental management plans and guidelines for the protection, rehabilitation, enhancement and management of the Shire’s unique environment. Environmental services also provides environmental evaluation on a broad range of issues embracing land management, wetlands, marine areas, waterways, energy conservation, foreshores, reserves management (coastal, inland and roadsides) and development proposals.

In addition, the Environmental Officer is involved with various projects aimed at increasing public awareness of the value of our unique environment.

These activities are grouped into the following broad program areas:

       ·     Water and Waterways;
       ·     Bushland remnant vegetation;
       ·     Weeds and Feral Animals;
       ·     Coastal and Marine;
       ·     Environmental Information for Development;
       ·     Green Living; and
       ·     Sustainability




Current environmental strategies include the Esperance Coastal Management Plan and the Shire of Esperance Environmental Weed Strategy 2009-2018.
