SuperTowns

The Esperance SuperTowns initiative has been driven by the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission, the Shire of Esperance and the Esperance Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This has involved a hectic few months working with the community to develop an aspirational Growth Plan for the future of the town and to prepare projects for SuperTowns funding applications.

On 6 March 2012, the SuperTowns team reached a key milestone - the end of phase one planning for the SuperTowns project - marked by the joint submission (by the three organisations) of a draft Growth Plan (see Growth Plan page) to the Department of Regional Development and Lands (RDL). While there is still a lot of work outstanding on this document, this first version was required in its current format as part of the SuperTowns process. Ongoing consultation will be undertaken with a range of organisations, groups and individuals as this document is finalised and we look forward to input form all sections of the Esperance community over the next few months.

At the same time as this first version of the Growth Plan was lodged, the initial four projects eligible for funding under the SuperTowns program also needed to be submitted. Details of these can be found under ‘Current Projects’. We now wait with a mix of expectation and trepidation to find out what projects receive funding through this program.

In an effort to increase the opportunity for community involvement in this process an Esperance SuperTowns facebook page has been set up, please take the time to ‘like’ this page and stay engaged in this program.
